The summary book delves a little deeper into the analysis of this psychology and emphasizes the key points the author would like the reader to fully understand and comprehend, so they can use the information and successfully apply it in their every day lives. The state of your mindset can facilitate growth or cause you to become stagnant not only in your career but in other aspects of your life as well. It can either help you decide if you want to read the book, or help you utilize the book to improve your own personal growth.
As someone who has suffered from depression and anxiety for many years, I had come to believe that much of it was out of my control, and that there was something physically wrong with me. Overtime I have learned that a lot of those feelings are creations within my own mind and thought process. “Summary of Mindset” is a short, yet highly effective, book that talks about the power of mindset. This book helped fuel my belief that in having a different mindset, can I be on the path to overcoming my own crippling thoughts and inner turmoil.

What lured me in about this book was the idea that what we accomplish in life is the equivalent to what we think we are capable of. For instance, if you think that you were born a failure, chances are that you will believe that you will fail in most things. We start to feel that we are simply destined to follow a path, because no other path has been expected of us.

The author, Dr. Carol Dweck, talks about what we believe are innate characteristics, and what we think are characteristics that we can grow from. By understanding these mindsets, we can then be on the path to true success, because we start to comprehend our true potential and not the potential of what others think we can or can’t do.

“Summary of Mindset” is a short book, but it is jammed pack with great information and insight. The book gave me a great boost confidence, and reiterated what I have only have come to believe, and that is the power of a positive and confident mindset is key to a successful and happy journey in life.
The principles of Dr. Carol Dweck are given to you in a quick and clear way. I like how the principles were described in a manner that allowed me to understand the basics of Dr. Dweck’s book. As I read, I felt like I was able to apply the principles, and, being a psychological principle, the summary gave just enough information to inspire introspection.
The reason I am giving this only 4 starts was that the summary didn’t seem to capture the intended positivity of developing a “growth mindset.” The summary tends to focus more on the negative aspects of the fixed mindset. A section of the summary entitled “People Who Don’t Want to Change” it says that a fixed mindset person doesn’t acknowledge any issues, and will think the world is the cause of all the problems. Unfortunately, the summary spends so much time on the “problems” that the wrong audience won’t be inspired to develop a “growth mindset.”
This summary only left me wondering the same question I purchased it to solve… do I need to buy “Mindset.” There wasn’t anything in this summary that seemed revolutionary which would have enticed me to buy Mindset either. Which was really disappointing because I thought from the summary I would at least get a grasp of the view changing work that Dweck did.
What this summary would probably be great for is someone looking for a very short quick reference to the original work. Although I read through it on my lunch break I definitely didn’t walk away having anything to think about. While I’ve been told by many that Mindset is a must read for anyone who is interested in personal achievement or the psychology behind it.
I wouldn’t recommend this to someone who hasn’t read Mindset yet. I’m going to move on to the book and see what I missed out on here, but the constant repeating of particular main points seem like they’d be good for jogging your memory.
